Creating information technology for society’s most pressing challenges

UC Davis is renowned for cross-disciplinary research and teaching that draw upon 100 academic majors, 87 graduate programs, and professional schools in business, education, law, medicine, nursing, and veterinary medicine. The campus connects the greater Sacramento region with the Bay Area, the Delta and Sierra, and the Central Valley. CITRIS at UC Davis brings expertise in engineering, nanoscience, law, and medicine to bear on complex challenges related to food, health, the environment, and society. See the link below for some of the people that makes CITRIS who we are.

CITRIS at UC Davis hosts multiple research labs including the CITRIS Aviation Lab in Academic Surge, Visual Thinking Lab in Bainer Hall, Environmental Robotics Laboratory at the Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC), and the Center for Spaceflight Research in East Davis.

As we enter a new age driven by powerful new technologies – machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), drones and UAVs, augmented reality and virtual reality (AR/VR), genetic editing, and, powering it all, quantum leaps of data science – the needs and questions change. To lead us through this new landscape, CITRIS launches a new strategic plan, Vision 2025.

CITRIS Growing Reach

CITRIS is proud to be a multidisciplinary institution having ongoing initiatives across four of the ten campuses of the University of California. Our branches at UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Merced.

Sutardja Dai Hall in Berkeley is our HQ. The magnificent building hosts the CITRIS Invention Lab, a rapid prototyping space used by UC entrepreneurs in our CITRIS Foundry startup accelerator program and the student maker community.

CITRIS at UC Davis brings expertise in engineering, nanoscience, law, and medicine to bear on complex challenges related to food, health, the environment, and society.

CITRIS Santa Cruz explores the design of new systems for immersive video and augmented reality, intelligent media for social good, and exploring the intersection of computing approaches from artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and software engineering with art and design.

The University of California Merced is a leader in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the campus specializes in gathering scientific data using unmanned aerial vehicles, with the goal of developing practical solutions in the fields of agriculture and landscape ecology.
