Citris researcher Tingrui Pan has created a "smart" lense
Tingrui Pan, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and a new member of the CITRIS faculty was recently in the news for having created a prototype of a “smart” contact lenses. Using powdered nanosilver Dr. Pan and postdoctoral researcher Hailin Cong were able to create a method to place the silver nanoparticles onto polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) leaving patterns of conductive wires. The silver nanocomposite coated onto the flexible PDMS substrate was then shaped into contact lenses which the researchers believe will work as pressure sensing array. They envision that the contact lens device provide a new way to monitor ocular pressure and aqueous flow in the near future. See Tingrui Pan tell the story in this video clip from Sacramento’s channel 13.
